As you can see,  the curb lane was clear of vehicles and the driver was obviously attempting to use it.

It appears he entered the lane too fast and that explains why the accident happened.  Police would do well to examine the car’s steering. It may have gone armstrong on him.

As he was empty he would have wanted that lane for ease of access to pedestrians hiring a cab.  His driving may have been an overreaction to a hailing pedestrian–a common cause of taxi accidents.

Remember cabbies when a pedestrian hails you there’s no need to panic they will wait for you to pull over when you have to maneuver across lanes to get to him or her.  I’ve seen far too many accidents caused by a “panic pullover” as likely happened here.

UPDATE: Moscow, June 17, 2018: Moscow police say the cab driver involved in yesterdays accident admitted to falling asleep at the wheel when the accident occurred.

Owing to extreme hours of work not infrequently expected of taxi drivers, driver fatigue is all too often the final factor traffic accidents such as this one, involving cab drivers and other professional drivers on the streets and highways. –editor

DRIVERS! If you feel even remotely sleepy go home!  Always take a 15-minute break from cab driving every 3 hours or so and an hour-long break about halfway through your shift.  (Easier said than done of course, but necessary nevertheless.)
