CALGARY WANTS MORE MONEY FROM ITS CABBIES, UBER, LIMOS AND THEIR MECHANICS

If the City of Calgary has its way, license fees for cabbies & Uber are on their way up in an effort to fund their $4,393,347 a year budget.  Hardest hit will be the garage operators and mechanics who—for reasons known only the City Administration and God, will experience a fee increase ranging from 121% to 560% just for the right to inspect and service taxis and limos, including Ubers.

Last Tuesday, February 2nd the LTS held an information/discussion session at the Executive Royal Inn & Suites to which all taxi, limo and Uber drivers and their service station operators were invited.

Media were excluded and barred from covering the event, but I got there anyway thanks to a tip from the cabbies.  I would talk with drivers as they left the meeting and got the details shown on the link below.

The City’s Standing Policy Committee on Community and Protective Services will be reviewing these fee proposals at the council chambers on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 9:30am and you can and should all be there to put in your two cents worth.  I suggest that all of you—especially garage mechanics attend.  The citizens won’t mind walking or riding a bus for awhile.
