WOMEN TAXI AND RIDESHARE DRIVERS

There are 2041 licensed taxi drivers in Calgary of which only 100 are women..  Why so few?

The brokers will recruit a woman just as quickly as a man so gender discrimination is not the reason.  The truth is most women see cab driving as an occupation that’s far too dangerous for them to pursue.

There are 21 taxi homicides of record in Alberta of which no fewer than 4 shown below are female.  In other words 19% of taxi homicides in Alberta were female but constitute only 4% of drivers.  In other words they are 5 times more likely to die from occupational homicide than are men.

There are noticeably far more women driving for TNC’s such as Uber.  PINK CARS who launched in Calgary, Airdrie  and Cochrane today (June 27, 2017) recruits only women drivers and targets vulnerable passengers such as the disabled, elderly, children and ladies who feel uncomfortable riding home in a male operated cab.
